Full Biography

My "unique" around here, is I look at and use Excel as a tool for accounts and bookkeeping, so there are those whose level of genius far exceeds mine and to who am grateful for answers(!), but how to do something in the context of debits and credits: that's "my" domain.

I  have 40 years experience of book-keeping and accounts. In this context I am expert in Excel in the context of accountancy and bookkeeping, based on over 100,000 hours etc. I once developed a complete accounting system in Lotus 123 - which still works. Trying to reconcile "if it works don't fix it" with "not being stuck in my ways".

I enjoy bookkeeping especially in a spreadsheet environment, so this involves the application of the principles of accountancy to the use of Excel. In technical terms this is less about exactly how to use various bits of Excel and more about how to apply their use in an accounting context.

I think lesson one is to understand that slavish reproduction of the old ways is not the best use of the "new" technology. Better to use the machines themselves to do that reproduction should we wish it, rather than forcing them to work using the old methods.
