In a question here at Experts Exchange, a member asked if it is possible to add a color bar/line across the top of every page of a PDF document. I provided two solutions in comments at that thread — one using an imaging program to create the color bar and Adobe Acrobat to put it on every page; another solution using Acrobat to do both. This video Micro Tutorial shows the latter method.

Video Steps

1. Create a PDF with a blank page

Run Adobe Acrobat.

Click Tools menu.

Click Create PDF icon.

Click Blank Page.

Click Create button.

2. Create the color bar/line

Click Tools menu.

Click Comment icon.

Click Draw rectangle tool on Comment toolbar.

Click Change color tool on Comment toolbar (opens color dialog).

Select Fills (click color).

Select Borders (click color).

Select Opacity level (move slider).

Click Change color tool on Comment toolbar (closes color dialog).

Position mouse at upper left starting point.

Drag mouse to lower right until you have the bar size that you want.

Click File>Save to save the color bar in a PDF file.

3. Apply color bar to every page of the target PDF

Open the target PDF in Acrobat.

Click Tools menu.

Click Edit PDF icon.

Click Watermark drop-down.

Click Add... menu item.

Step3 - Add Watermark dialog
Tick File radio button.

Click Browse button and navigate to the color bar file created in Steps 1 and 2.

Un-tick the Scale relative to target page (not needed since you made the bar the size that you want).

Click OK button.

4. Save file with color bar added

Do a File>Save or Save As to save the PDF with the color bar added.

That's it! If you find this video to be helpful, please click the thumbs-up icon below. Thank you for watching!
